Who's in the Wedding Party?
We wanted to do the whole wedding party thing a little differently (bucking tradition? so unlike us ). Rather than the usual bride’s side and groom’s side, which is a bit outdated and overly genderized for our liking, we wanted to treat this group like one communal unit. It feels true to who we are as people- we get immense fulfillment from melding different friend groups and watching new relationships form.

Why is there Karaoke at the
Welcome Party?
As a key part of our love story, we spent almost every Thursday during our time at Brandcenter singing Karaoke together. We’re hoping to bring the magic of Metro Karaoke to our Welcome Party, with all our favorite people.
Can I bring my kids to the wedding?
Since our big day also has a countdown to midnight, we’re getting started pretty late, and ending very late. We kindly ask that unless noted on your invitation, you treat yourself to a babysitter and ring in the New Year with us!
What do I wear?
The dress code for all the events on New Year’s Eve is “Black Tie Optional, Black Tie Outrageous.” Take your classic Black Tie Optional dress code, and add some pizazz!
We’re looking for sparkles and sequins, velvet, feathers, gloves, and drama – please dress in a festive way that you feel comfortable, or take a peek at our moodboard.
The bridal party will be wearing black outfits and tuxedos, so all colors are welcome! (Except white, of course 😉)
Are the Wedding Ceremony and Reception at different locations?
Yes! You’ll get the full Richmond experience by attending our Wedding Ceremony at the Byrd Theater and the Wedding Reception at the John Marshall Ballrooms, just a quick 10 minute drive from one another.

What’s the Byrd Theater?
A staple of the Carytown neighborhood in Richmond, we’re getting married in a historic movie theater that’s almost a hundred years old. It’s sentimental to us, having spent all our time as grad students in the Fan / Carytown area, and even watching an Advertising Showcase on the big screen!
Check out more Byrd Theater history HERE.
What are the
John Marshall Ballrooms?
The Hotel John Marshall opened in 1929 as the largest hotel in Virginia. Its rooms welcomed famous figures like Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Tyler Moore, and Elvis Presley, and even hosted a cattle auction on the now dance floor in 1964. Yeehaw!
Read more about the John Marshall HERE.
How do I get around Richmond?
Richmond is a great city for walking and biking… in the summertime. Since we’ll be celebrating around the holidays, it’s probably best to plan on driving around town in a car or Lyft.

How do I get to the Wedding Ceremony and Reception?
It’s a quick 10 minute drive from the Hilton Richmond Downtown to the Byrd Theater, and 10 minutes back to the John Marshall Ballrooms. Please make plans to safely get to and from the venues by car.
From the John Marshall Ballroom, you're within walking distance of our chosen hotel, the Hilton Richmond Downtown.

Where should I park?
If you’re driving, we’ve reserved parking garages next to both venues for you to use:
-
City Parking Deck behind the Byrd Theater
-
Second Presbyterian Garage next to the John Marshall Ballrooms

Are the celebrations accessible?
All of our celebration locations are ADA accessible for our attendees.
-
Common House uses both stairs and an elevator to reach the top floor of the building for the Welcome Party, however, the rooftop is only accessible by stairs.
-
Wedding guests are only permitted on the first, accessible floor of the Byrd Theater.
-
The entrance to the John Marshall Ballrooms are accessible with both stairs and elevator, as well as the balcony for our guests to use in the Virginia Room.
What if I have a dietary request?

Where should I stay?
We’ve chosen the Hilton Richmond Downtown for you to have the ultimate Richmond experience, and be in a centralized location for our wedding weekend. We’ve stayed there before, and have found lots of reasons to love this hotel – check out our reasons why + book your stay HERE.
What should I do when I’m in RVA?
Richmond has such a special place in our hearts, and we’re so excited to share all our favorite places and spaces with you, check out our list HERE!
What’s the weather like
in Virginia in December?
If you’re a VA native, you can attest the winters are a bit unpredictable, but nothing compared to what you all in Montana, Minnesota, or New York experience. Do bring a winter coat, but don’t stress about snow!
Are there any other Wedding events on Wednesday, January 1?
No, we’ll be out late on New Year’s Eve, so enjoy sleeping in on New Years Day!

You made it to the bottom!
Here's a really terrible portrait of us some guy drew at the Queens Night Market as a reward.
